Good point. Diggle et al managed to derive metabolic costs using two types of mutants. I guess that C &amp; H wanted to explore the theoretic possibilities of all types of possible mutants within the 3-loci space, and to establish a proof of principle for this model. They did look only at &quot;cheap&quot; and &quot;expensive&quot; costs, and did not explore that space more continuously. They did show that it is sensible. Now we need someone to drum up a few mutants in addition to those of Diggle et. al

Also, I don&#039;t think anyone has actually found cheating mutants in nature. Diggle has shown experimentally that these mutants can survive and thrive, and C&amp;H and others have show that it is likely they exist... but I don&#039;t think a cheating strain of QS-bacteria has been isolated yet. Correct me if I am wrong.</description>
